Welcome back! I’m so glad you’re here today as we continue our deep chats and debunk more lies hindering our creative walks.
If you’ve ever felt unqualified, unsure, or just plain stuck in the muck of doubt—this is for you.
My heart resonates with the truth that God has—and will continue to—equipped you for all that He’s prepared for you.
Today we’re highlighting foundational truths that you might be overlooking as you establish your writing career and fully step into the role of business owner.
It is not uncommon for writers to battle with questions over whether they have what it takes to thrive as a business owner. There’s a reason our mind is often referred to as a battlefield. We’re constantly bombarded with attacks against our confidence and self-estimate.
If you’ve been weathering warfare in those areas, then I encourage you to take a nice, deep breath and remember that you are not alone. And more importantly: you’re not without help.
Let’s dive into 4 biblical truths to support your calling and build your writing business with God.
Self-doubt has a nasty habit of pushing us into identities or molds that were never ours to walk in.
So, let’s re-evaluate who you are and Who’s you are.
If self-doubt is kicking dust in your eyes preventing you from seeing clearly, then I pray this scripture washes over you.
Let that sink in: You are His. This is more than just a warm and fuzzy Scripture to slap on a journal cover. This is identity. This is belonging. This is covenant-level love between God the Father and you.
God has called you by name. Which means you’re not just a number among the horde of Christian soldiers. You’re an adopted daughter into His household.
When God calls you into ministry, into business, into a creative work for His glory, He is inviting you into partnership with Him.
That means the outcome of your success matters to Him. He takes a personal investment in your growth and in your business.
Understanding your identity as a member of God’s household positions you to shift your mindset from striving to yearning.
When you dwell with God and get a deeper glimpse of His nature and character, you start to yearn for more of Him and more of His presence.
You shift from building within your own power to yearning for His presences to be reveal through your business.
And because I love illustrations, let’s build a picture real quick.
Illustrations are like modern day parables, and for today, I’d love for you to imagine a seasoned Carpenter in His workshop. The Carpenter has all the tools, all the resources, and the blueprint for His next project is laid out on a table.
The Carpenter invites His son into the workshop and hands him the tools. The son then takes the tools, resources, and builds according to the detailed blueprint provided. The Carpenter does not leave the room.
He stays present, lingering with the son, encouraging, guiding, stewarding, and dwelling right there with the son as the project comes to completion. And the most beautiful thing of this moment isn’t the item being constructed. It’s the joy and the delight shared by both the son and the Carpenter as they enjoy completing the project together.
For the Carpenter and His son, it’s about the joy of relationship. The closeness. The collaboration as they work side by side to bring something new into this world.
Isn’t that what our soul’s long? Not just to do something for God, but to do it with Him.
If we get so focused on the outcome, the fruit, the launch, the sales, the success—if we forget the Carpenter standing beside us—we’re missing the point of why God called us to Him in the first place.
God desires us. We aremore than just what we produce.
Yes, He wants our obedience to make a lasting impact, a lasting change in this world.
But to establish sustainable businesses that endure through all storms and cultural upheavals, we need to have the foundational truth that our value is more than what we produce and our purpose is driven for and from the love of God our Father, who calls you by name.
When God calls you, He will fill and equip you.
There’s an inspiring example in the Old Testament involving an artisan named Bezalel.
Go ahead and open to Exodus 31, and we’ll quickly read verses 1 through 5.
Did you catch that? God called Bezalel by name and filled Him with the Spirit of God. And in turn, Bezalel had access to wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and operation. Because some translations word “all manner of workmanship” to read ability or expertise.
Essentially, Bezalel was blessed not only with the mental stamina to create but the know-how to produce.
And in verse 5, we read how he was tasked “to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze,in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.”
Bezalel had the wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and expertise to do all the things for the purpose of crafting works in accordance to the divine blueprints God had given to Moses regarding the tabernacle.
I want you to lean in for a moment to really grasp hold of this.
God empowered Bezalel from the inside out, and if God did that for him, could He not do the same for you?
Owning a business can feel hard and overwhelming—especially if we’re doing it all within our own understanding.
I’ve been there. I spent years scrambling and striving, hustling and spiritually dying all for the sake of entrepreneurial success.
I had no idea how good life could be until I finally came to the end of myself and discovered the true joy of co-laboring with Christ.
And the same God who worked wonders in my life, the same One who empowered Bezalel to create beautiful, sacred works for the glory of God also has His Spirit living in you.
When you accepted Christ as your Savior, you received the Holy Spirit, who is ready to embolden you and empower you.
You don’t have to be born with all the business know-how. You don’t need to be perfect with sales pages, email funnels, or Instagram reels. You just need to be willing.
Willing to be lead by the Holy Spirit as He guides you, teaches you, and fills you.
But as with anything, opposition rises up to distract us, cause delay, or even have us abort our hopes and dreams.
And more often than not, we are our own worst enemy entertaining lies like:
Let’s go ahead and call those for what they are: lies.
And the truth we’re going to speak over those lies comes from James 1:5, which says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
Remember the illustration with the Carpenter and His son. If the son had a question or wasn’t sure how to interpret the blueprints, would the Carpenter shame His son for asking for clarity, help, discernment, or the know-how to finish the project that he was tasked with.
No, the Carpenter would not belittle His son for asking for wisdom, knowledge, or understanding.
He won’t roll His eyes at your confusion. He won’t throw up His hands because you’ve yet again entered a stage of overwhelmed.
Have the courage to ask your questions and then be tender hearted to receive the instructions.
You would not believe the number of times the answer I needed or the solution to a particular dilemma has dropped into my lap at just the right moment.
From prayers like: “Lord, I’m hitting a wall with this website update, how do I do (xyz)…”
Or “Father, I can’t figure out how to get this book marketed well. What am I missing?”
Or even the time I headed out to the chicken coop only to discover a hen with sour crop. I’m inexperienced and have limited resources. But my daughter loves her chickens and all I could do was hold the hen and plead with the Father to show me what to do to save her and avoid a chicken funeral.
[True story—and the hen is fine now, by the way.]
I say all that because there have been countless times when an email has landed in my inbox with just the answer I need at just the right time. Or a podcast guest shares the very wisdom I’d been wracking my brain for.
Or I’ll be in church, wrapped up in the Father arms and simply loving on Him when—boom—an idea, an epiphany, a heavenly download drops, fueling me and inspiring my next steps.
Sometimes the issue isn’t God being silent. It’s us being too distracted, too busy, or even too afraid to slow down and listen.
Our next nugget is one you’ll hear me discuss often as it is a foundational truth for the podcast.
Turn with me to Matthew 11:28-30. I’m going to read from the Message translation for this set of scriptures. I love the NKJV as my foundation translation, however, I can’t help but love the way the Message words this section so poignantly.
In these verses Jesus says,
What a life-altering invitation from Jesus Himself as He says,
“Walk with Me and work with Me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.”
Not one of strife. Not one of burn out. But to walk with Jesus.
To work from a place of rest.
To build your writing business as you keep company with your Savior and learn from Him.
Not just in your prayer time, but at all times.
This is where wisdom flows. This is where peace lives. This is where you rise—not in your own strength, but in His.
As we bring this all in for a landing today, I want to share some reminders your heart might needed to hear:
To write the next line. To plan the next launch. To trust Him with the process and the outcome.
Because He’s like the Carpenter in our illustration. And He’s right there beside you.
Keep writing, keep surrendering, and keep walking with Jesus.
You’ve got this… because He’s got you.
